The Great Studio Organist Sandy Kay Rest In Peace

My first article is going to be a bittersweet one. This is a recent interview that I have had with the incompressible Sandy Kay formerly of the Soul Survivors.

<p>JJ: How did you first get interested in music?
JJ: But you did Eventually go on Tour with the Soul Survivors. What changed your mind?

Sandy Kay
(SK): I was sitting in my living room with my Mom and Dad and in early February of 1964, when The Beatles first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show I was just enthralled by the music, the fast chords and the rift changes. That sparked my interest in music. I just needed to find the right instrument for me. And that really was the catalyst for my interest in music. My mother was a music teacher, she taught piano, she taught me a few of the classic songs, but it just did not feel right. The organ seemed to be the right instrument for me.

JJ: Why didn’t you join or start your own band?
SK: If I started my own band or joined one, it would lock me into one particular band. This way, I had the possibility of playing with legendary greats as Ike Turner and Otis Redding.

SK: We had a hit song, Expressway to Your Heart and I just couldn’t let my fans down. We were originally called The Dedications when we were playing out of New York.

JJ: Who all comprised the band?
SK:* Charlie Ingui – vocals
* Richie Ingui – vocals
* Kenny Jeremiah – vocals
* John Dzubak – drums
* Ralph Capobianco drums & percussion
* Sandy Kay – organ
* Chuck Trois – guitar
* Edward Leonetti – guitar

JJ: What influenced you to adopt the blacks Rythm and Blues sound. ? What bands influenced you?
SK: Let’s face it, it was a turbulent times in the 60’s and lines were not just being blurred, they were being crossed. The Rhythm and blues the blacks were singng about spoke what I felt. It was just natural to gravitate towards that type of Music.

JJ: What was the Memphis music scene like in the ’60’s?
SK: It was very eclectic and very lively. It was a dichotomy of moods. On one hand we didn’t have a care in in the world and at the same time we had the Vietnam war just starting up. We worried if we were going to be called up and be drafted. What we would do. If we would go in, take a jail sentence or run to Canada.

JJ: Where did the band typically play?
SK: At fiust we were just playing night clubs and honky tonks. When Gamble and Huff started with us we were able tog et into auditoriums where it was the music not the cheap booze people were interested in.

This is Just JJ here. The reason why it is a bitter sweet moment for me is because Sandy Kay passed away last month. March 15, 2011. Rest in Peace Sandy, we will remember and miss you. I will put up the rest of the interview soon. Just be patient with me while I grieve. He was a good friend and a good neighbor. Here is a recent picture I took of him, before he passed away.

Will the real Sandy Kay please stand up.

I have about 10 emails from someone claiming to be the real Sandy Kay, but let’s do a quick background check on this guy. I think this will show you he is not the real Sandy Kay.

First, his real name is Stuart Kalish. That is lie number one. He is going by the name Steve Leigh. Personally, I would switch back to Stuart Kalish. Stuart Kalish does not have a large criminal record.

Second, he claims he has never been convicted of anything. Yet according to blog out there run by a JSbigdog, he has been convicted by a Hillsborough county judge for telephone harassment. Here is a link to many of his court appearances. He has probably heard this more often, than all his aliases combined, the defendant.” This link also includes his restraining order from his wife when she was so afraid of him hitting her. He thinks the restraining order is no big deal, but as you can see from this sad story it is not an easy task to get a restraining order. So that is lie number two.

Third, he is or should I say was friends with a yellowrose/ Jan Johnson of a online community for training and breeding dogs. That was when he claimed to pay back the money he promised this individual. I guess that is lie number three.

Fourth, Now this idiot claims to be knowledgeable in dog training. According to this website he is considered to be pretty much a crazy F@#$. So that is lie number four.

Fifth, he says he doesn’t harass anybody, but here is another site shows the complete opposite and proves it as well. So if you want to visit lie number five here it is.

Sixth, he seems to like to harass someone by the name of Lou Castle. Claiming he is more of an expert on dog training than Lou castle is. Still, Steve Leigh/Stuart Kalish would have never been sued according to JSbigdog site. Also, the state would have never taken away his countless dogs to euthanize them. Just because the state takes them away, he wants us to believe they don’t kill the dogs. What do you think they do give them dog treats and new hoes. There is lie Number six.

I am not dumping on him, he is the one impersonating Sandy Kay. I understand that a pea brained idiot like him can’t understand English. He can’t understand that he has been outed as a fraud. Outed. We all know we have a crazy uncle like that You know the one. The one that can’t be around children alone. The biggest claim to fame this guy must have had is sweeping a broom at a recording studio. Stuart Kalish’s wealth is at the bottom ten percent He lives in a below average neighborhood.

Some people will do anything for attenion. Even impersonate someone. I have found such an individual. He goes by the name of Steve Leigh, he has a website claiming to be Sandy Kay. As you can see here from his email his logic is flawed and delusinal. I won’t give you the link to his website, just expose his ramblings.

JJ: By this logic, I can challenge anyone to prove who I am not. I challenge Steve Leigh, Yes that is the impersonators real name to prove that I am not Queen Elizabeth.
